Full aniline lambskin is the “haute couture” of leathers—incredibly soft and supple, but also highly porous and prone to staining because it lacks a protective pigment layer.

Think of it like a sponge: it will absorb water, oils, and sweat almost instantly. Here is how to keep your gloves in pristine condition.

1. Daily Maintenance & Prevention
The best way to care for aniline lambskin is to prevent damage before it happens.

Clean Hands: Always wash and dry your hands before putting the gloves on. The natural oils from your skin can darken and stain the porous lambskin over time.

Avoid the Elements: Avoid wearing these gloves in heavy rain or snow. If they do get wet, do not use a hair dryer or radiator.

The “Hand Massage” Rule: After each wear, gently pull the gloves into their original shape and store them flat. Every so often, put them on and “massage” your hands together; the gentle friction helps redistribute the leather’s natural oils.

2. Cleaning Light Soiling
If the gloves look a bit dull or have surface dust:

Dry Cloth: Use a clean, dry microfiber cloth to gently wipe away dust.

Damp Wipe (Last Resort): If you have a light stain, use a cloth that is barely damp with distilled water. Tap water contains minerals that can leave permanent “water rings” on aniline leather.

Blot, Don’t Rub: If you spill something, blot it immediately with a dry paper towel. Rubbing will push the liquid deeper into the fibers.

3. Deep Cleaning & Conditioning
Because lambskin is so delicate, “less is more.”

Use Specific Products: Only use cleaners and conditioners labeled specifically for Aniline or Unfinished leather (e.g., Saphir Médaille d’Or Nappa Cream or Colourlock Aniline Cream). Avoid “All-in-One” cleaners which often contain waxes that will clog the pores and ruin the velvet-soft feel.

Spot Test: Always test any product on a tiny, hidden area (like the inside of the wrist) first. Aniline leather almost always darkens when wet, but it should return to its original color once dry.

Air Dry: If the gloves get damp during cleaning, lay them flat on a towel away from sun and heat. Put them on a few times while they are drying to ensure they don’t shrink and to help them retain the shape of your hands.

4. How to Store
Breathable Environment: Never store leather gloves in plastic bags; they need to breathe to prevent mold. Use a cotton pouch or wrap them in acid-free tissue paper.

Lay Flat: Avoid folding them or stuffing them into a pocket, which can cause permanent creases in the delicate lambskin.
